The countries of the Northern Hemisphere share a connection dating many hundreds of years. We share the idea that food should be clean, simple, healthy and delicious. Nordic people hold a respect for nature and its produce that is preserved in the food we eat.
The key to Nordic cuisine is keeping it simple, long dark winters means boxing clever with your produce. Past generations have taught us about connecting with nature and preserving berries, fish and meats for the harsh winter months. This tradition remains untouched in the modern world and has shaped the way we enjoy food today.
Moikka! We are Sarah and Jenny, two friends from two towns in Finland. After meeting in Cardiff in 2015 we instantly bonded as Finns in a city far from home. Nordic Catering is a result of a mutual love for food, Nordic culture and fresh, British ingredients.
Together we have a combined experience of over 20 years in hospitality, in both the UK and Finland.
Sarah has been cooking professionally since 2008 at establishments in both the UK and Finland. Born the daughter of a Finnish mother and Moroccan father, Sarah grew up appreciating two unique culinary cultures.
Sarah first came to the attention of the public as a contestant in the Finnish edition of Hell’s Kitchen in 2013. Her experience on the show ignited a hunger to compete with some of the very best cooking talent in Europe.
Since relocating to Wales, Sarah continued competing by entering the ‘National Chef of the Year’ at Le Cordon Bleu, London. After receiving praise from the judges for her Nordic influence and methods, Sarah dreamed of introducing Cardiff to her Nordic cuisine. From that seed Nordic Catering was born.
Jenny from Joensuu moved to the UK in 2004 and has managed some of Cardiff’s most vibrant establishments.
Jenny has since built up a reputation as a professional manager and hostess with an intimate knowledge of the city’s culinary and popular culture.
